JACKPOT MELTING
This film, inspired by Amiri Baraka’s one-act play, Jackpot Melting: A Commercial, takes a look the violence of cultural and racial appropriation in the age of globalization.
The aesthetic reflects the façade of our society that leads to disconnection and isolation. The unmasking of this truth becomes a brutal shaming, while the television is revealed to be a numbing vortex. Baraka frequently used jazz compositions as accompaniment to his live spoken poetry. In Jackpot Melting, I approached jazz compositions as a substitute for dialogue and words.
